Constructed Memories Project

This interactive tells both the story of daughter Melinda Hess on her reconstructed trek following her Father’s 1946 trip from NYC to the American Southwest to work on a then top secret project and the diverse characters sharing their remembered stories of that unique time/place. Constructed Memories explores the collision of personal, historic moments as family remembers with variations on narrative.

Tracking the letters

The overarching story of Constructed Memories is the intersection of personal and national history as a daughter explores the 1946 letters of her Jewish father, written during a covert military project between the U.S. and German Nazis rocket scientists in the U.S. Southwest.

The project reveals the true story of the American Space program from the German rocket slave camps of the Holocaust to landing on the moon and space tourism today.
